The Shepherd!

I....am terrible at writing general emails. I have learned a lot of things on my mission, but one of the things I learn most is how much I DON'T know how to do things. Among the many things is my ability to write general letters. So, to all who read this, wherever it is you may be, I hope you find yourself a tub of ice cream to better enjoy this mediocre letter :)

We had changes this week! Elder Mendoza se fue al sector Villa Brasil! I stayed here in Los Olmos (6th change wooo!!) with my new companion Elder Haire. He´s pretty darn new here in Chile, so we get a lot of Spanish practice in the streets, but it´s pretty fun. He´s taller than me, buffer than me, handsomer than me....

So that´s lame. But other than that he´s a pretty cool guy! (I´d go so far to say that he´s almost cooler than me!)

This week we had some fun! On Saturday we had to be inside at 8:00 due to a pretty big holiday here in Chile, and Sunday we couldn´t leave the house except to go to Church. Did I mention I have mastered the Rubix Cube here? On Sunday I did it in a minute and ten seconds! If somebody beats that, email me and I´ll send you my cube :)

Scarlett, one of the girls we have on date to be baptized for October 9th, is progressing a TON. Yesterday we went over to help her with her Personal Progress, and we are going to go back over tomorrow to help her prepare a lesson for Young Women´s! She´s pretty excited about the Gospel and has been participating in all the activities, she even goes to seminary every night! I saw one of the new bible videos (are those new?) about the Shepherd going to find The Lost Sheep, and I really liked the way the video was done. A lot of times we think about the glorious finding of the sheep, and we overlook the not-so-glorious search that went before. The Shepherd searches for days in this video, in rain, in heat, hiked mountains, sacrificed to find the sheep .His good, godlike desire to find the sheep wasn´t what did the job, the quality of the Shepherd isn´t the moral of the story, it´s the sacrifice that came as a fruit of his desire that made the find glorious. While I am no Shepherd, nor I have really had to sacrifice a lot to find this sheep  (in fact, I didn´t find her, Elder Harrison and AlbarracĂn did in February), I do know that The Lord has been working and sacrificing to bring this sheep to the fold. I just so happen to be here for the find, for the harvest. But it is awesome, and we are excited.

Jorge, another investigator who is ready to be baptized on that same date, is also progressing a ton. Almost at the same pace as Scarlett, he comes to church every week and participates in the activities with the YSA. He´s awesome, another sheep that we have been able find!

Gotta go, time is gone :)

Love you!

Elder Hixon
